Opening Remarks & Introduction
This blog page was designed to provide gamers and parents of gamers with an open forum to discuss gaming issues and concerns that they might have. I would submit that I played games for about 20 years and have personally participated in the evolution of the video game industry from its infancy. While anyone is invited to post responses and ask questions, I would request that individuals with dissenting opinions post their responses in a mature and respectful manner and realize that not everyone views things in the same way. While I no longer play games and was more than likely addicted to them, I thin that increasing awareness of potential threats that gaming can have is a valuable tool. With this being said, let me state right now that I am not demonizing gamers or the gaming industry, but will simply make the argument for some people being more predispositioned than others toward addictive behaviors. Truth be told, I loved games and still do, and I hope that we can also use this blog as a way to share information that we find interesting in our gaming experiences. Hopefully you will all find this site useful, informative and professional, while also giving you the opportunity to share opinions and learn from others.
I hope that you will take the time to provide me with your thoughts and feedback, while also inserting dissenting opinions or views, as they add to the overall enjoyment, understanding and create a more well-rounded venue of education for us all. However, I would again caution that we not become caustic or antagonistic, because it really isn't necessary. Truly, I've played so many role-playing games (RPG's) over the last 20 years on so many systems that I can barely recall what they were at this point.
Since the time that I ended my gaming career I have been journalizing to keep a running log of my feelings, reactions and thoughts about the last 20 years. This is no small task, and in many ways has been trying for me and my family. Undoing 20 years of habituation is nothing to shake a stick at! What I intend to do is post my journals as quickly as possible so that you can all view them, and this should provide people with a very transparent and honest assessment of what games mean to someone that played them for as long as I did. Thanks, and I can't wait to hear from you all!
Sincerely,
The Harbinger
